Irwin, H J(1979). Coding preferences and the form of spontaneous extrasensory experiences. Journal of Parapsychology, 43(3), (pp. 205-220) Abstract Administered an ESP questionnaire and the Ways of Thinking Questionnaire to 46 university students. Results show some support for the idea that the form of an ESP experience depends on the code the individual habitually employs in normal cognitive tasks (verbal or visual). This is most clearly demonstrated in the case of spontaneous ESP characterized by predominantly visual imagery: here percipients tend to show habitual reliance upon visual coding in a variety of other situations. While the data for Ss who report intuitive ESP experiences are not conclusive, the observed relationship between ESP and coding preferences is conceptually significant. (30 ref)
