LeShan, Lawrence(1978). PSI and altered states of consciousness: Necessary methods in physics and parapsychology. Parapsychology Review, 9(3), (pp. 13-17) Abstract Suggests that scientists confronted with an occurrence that was previously considered to be "impossible" must be ready to adjust their definitions of reality. It is observed that there is no such thing as a generally "correct" or "normal" state of consciousness, only various states that can be compared in the way they facilitate problem solving and achievement of goals. Certain things can be accomplished within some metaphysical systems that cannot be accomplished in others. It is recommended that parapsychologists follow the example of physicists and mathematicians, who have accepted the idea that in order to solve certain problems, the system of reality ordering may need to be changed.
