Edge, Hoyt L(1978). A philosophical justification for the conformance behavior model. Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research, 72(3), (pp. 215-231) Abstract Discusses the philosophers of science who call for a revolutionary paradigm switch in present conceptions of knowledge and of ways in which scientific knowledge is gained. In connection with parapsychology the "conformance behavior model" proposed by R. Stanford, (see record 1980-08566-001), rejects the traditional psychobiological model implicitly, if not explicitly. It is noted that Stanford's model of parapsychological phenomena is teleological; it is causal, but not perceptually based. A philosophical justification for the conformance behavior model and a broadening of its implications are provided.
