Abstract

Notes that Catholic clergy have justified anthropophagy for survival in emergencies, by reference to Transsubstantiation in the Eucharist and to medical donations of blood and organs. The cultural barrier against the use of human flesh as food is overcome by a universalistic philosophy which denies the separateness of the individual and affirms the continuity of organic existence.
