Edge, Hoyt(1977). The place of paradigms in parapsychology. Parapsychology Review, 8(5), (pp. 1-8) Abstract Discusses at length the philosophical difference between a correspondence theory and a paradigmatic theory of truth. Paradigms affect what we perceive (i.e., our conceptual framework influences our perceptual experiences) and our current concepts do not allow us to deal with psi. A new paradigm and a concomitant new language are needed to eliminate conceptualizing paranormal phenomena in terms of a mind)ody dualism and conceptualizing minds as isolated and unitary. Perhaps it is not correct to see telepathy as communication of one mind with another or psychokinesis as the action of mind on matter. The experimenter may not be separate from the experiment. A paradigm is needed that will allow for the mystical intuition of the fundamental unity of all things. (18 ref)
