Abstract

Based on a synthesis of ideas from the world's major religions, natural science, psychology, and philosophy, an analysis of death is presented which examines the history of belief in an afterlife, the increasing institutionalization of death, contributions of parapsychology, religious arguments for immortality, the development of Christian thought from the New Testament to the 20th century, and comparative religious views of reincarnation and rebirth.
