Houran, James (1999). Sources of potential bias in the Honorton et al. extraversion meta-analysis. Journal of Parapsychology, 63(2), (pp. 185-187)

Abstract

Comments on the article by C. Honorton et al regarding their meta-analysis of extraversion and ESP performance in forced-choice and free-response studies. It is contended that the Honorton et al charges of an artifact in the forced-choice data is only 1 source of error in the studies investigating the hypothesized connection between scores on ESP tests and scores on extraversion. It is suggested that the sources for artifacts in the ESP/extraversion literature extend well beyond the criticisms of Honorton et al, and it is argued that until the personality measures that have been used in this area of parapsychology are both assessed for potential errors and subsequently "purified" in order to become psychometrically sound, there can be no confidence in correctly interpreting the ESP/extraversion literature and, unfortunately, the Honorton et al meta-analysis on which it is based.
