Thalbourne, Michael A
(1998). In search of psi in the I Ching meta-hexagram. European Journal
of Parapsychology, 14, (pp. 125-129) Abstract A tabulation was made of how many times
each hexagram (a 64-line structure for an answer to a question) came up in a
personal collection gathered over a period of 9 yrs\' consecutive use of
the I Ching, in the hope of demonstrating deviation from chance according to
a number of measures. A meta-hexagram was derived for 1st hexagrams but the
chi-square goodness-of-fit test did not yield significant deviations from
chance. The same outcome was found for the 2nd hexagram. The number of static
hexagrams (no changing lines, giving a single unchanging hexagram) was very
close to the theoretical percentage. Mean number of changing lines did not
differ significantly from MCE. There were no signs of psi in these ways of
looking at the hexagrams.
