Thalbourne, Michael A (1998). Belief in life after
death and its relationship to transliminality-relevant variables. European
Journal of Parapsychology, 14, (pp. 16-30) Abstract Investigated whether transliminality,
defined as susceptibility to, and awareness of, large volumes of imagery,
ideation, and affect (these phenomena generated by subliminal, supraliminal
and/or external input), its constituent variables, and certain of its
correlates and associated variables might differ in relation to the kind of
afterlife believed in. 301 college students completed various personality and
beliefs questionnaires. Results show that on transliminality itself, using a
29-item transliminality scale, reincarnationists and eclectics (believers in
both immortality and reincarnation) were found to score highest, with the
lowest scores being obtained by extinctionists.
