Enhancing human performance: An evaluation of "new age" techniques considered
by the U.S. Army. Dissertation Abstracts International: Section B: The
Sciences and Engineering, 58(6-B), (pp. 3353) Abstract In a descriptive pilot study, the
Rorschach was given to seven self-described psychic channelers to see if
common personality traits would emerge. The Rorschach was administered,
scored and interpreted according to Exner's (1986, 1990, 1991)
Comprehensive System. Subjects consisted of six women and one man, ranging in
age from mid-thirties to early fifties. Four subjects who reported becoming
aware of their abilities spontaneously and at an early age ('natural'
channelers) performed differently than those who actively tried to develop
such abilities as adults. 'Natural' channelers' high sum of six
Special Scores (SUM6), high weighted sum of six Special Scores (WSUM6) and
high percentage of unusual form quality responses (Xu%) are discussed in
terms of subjects' creativity and capacity for adaptive regression as well
as tendencies toward unconventionality. These subjects also showed more
indications of emotional distress than the other subjects. Suggestions are
made for !future research.
