de Carvalho, Andre Percia (1996). Transference and possible spontaneous PSI
phenomena in psychotherapy. Journal of the Society for Psychical
Research, 61(842), (pp. 18-25) Abstract Presents 4 case studies of 26-57 yr olds
seen by the author in psychotherapy, and considers how possible spontaneous
psi phenomena reported by the Ss related to ostensible transference issues.
The 4 clients had been active practitioners of self-regulated altered states
of consciousness (e.g., yoga, meditation), and had read widely in associated
topics (e.g., parapsychology). These interests and practices may have
provided the matrix for the purported psi explanation for ordinary events or
coincidences or the sensitivity needed for psi communication or influence
actually to occur. Each S had great dependency needs and expected outside
sources to assist their passage through life. It is suggested that this may
have predisposed them to transference phenomena, and this situation may have
been favorable for the occurrence of psi phenomena.
