Hyman, Ray (1995). Evaluation of the program on anomalous mental phenomena. Journal of Parapsychology, 59(4), (pp. 321-351)

Abstract

Hyman, along with J. Utts (see record 84-14693), was given the task of evaluating 2 decades of research on psychic functioning carried out at Stanford Research Institute in 1973-1989 and continued at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in 1992-1994. Hyman focuses on Utts\'s conclusions, emphasizing points of disagreement between the 2 authors. Hyman attempts to justify why he believes that (1) the apparently nonchance effects do not justify concluding that the existence of anomalous cognition has been established, (2) the possibility of methodological flaws has not been completely eliminated, and (3) the SAIC results are not consistent with the contemporary findings in other parapsychological laboratories on remote viewing and the ganzfeld phenomenon.
