May, Edwin C, Spottiswoode, S
James P, Utts, Jessica M & James, Christine L (1995). Applications of
decision augmentation theory. Journal of Parapsychology, 59(3), (pp.
221-250) Abstract Summarizes the theoretical
predictions of decision augmentation theory (DAT), reviews the criteria for
valid retrospective tests, and analyzes the historical random number
generator (RNG) database. Findings from a prospective test of DAT are also
summarized. The authors review and comment on 6 published articles that
discuss DAT\'s earlier formalism (i.e., intuitive data sorting). Findings
from 2 studies support a force-like mechanism. An analysis of W. G.
Braud\'s (1990) hemolyis study confirms his finding in favor of an
influence model over a selection model, and W. G. Braud and M. J. Schlitz
(1989) demonstrated a force-like interaction in their remote staring
experiment. Six circumstantial arguments against an influence hypothesis are
presented. Based on the data it is suggested that overall, the physical RNG
database cannot be explained by an influence model.
