Tart, C. T. (1995). World parliament of superstition? Scientific evidence for a basic reality to the spiritual. ReVision, 18, (pp. 3-10).

Abstract

Tart uses his own personal story to illustrate the development of the traditional conflict between science and religion. Many people attempt to resolve this conflict by compartmentalizing their beliefs, whereas others embrace extreme belief or disbelief. The latter is often regarded as scientism, a materialistic philosophy which Tart illustrates with a "Western Creed" analogous to the Apostle's Creed. Tart has tried to resolve the conflict between science and religion with parapsychology. Using the best scientific methodology, parapsychologists have shown that the human mind has the ability occasionally to transcend space and time, a finding that "shows something very important going on under the classification of `religion'."
