Rao, K R (1964). Studies in the
preferential effect: IV. The role of key cards in preferential response
situations. Journal of Parapsychology, 28(1), (pp. 28-41) Abstract Ss were tested individually for ability to
sort concealed shuffled cards, each bearing 1 of 5 words in either a known
(English) or unknown (Telugu) language. The 5 place indicators against which
the cards were sorted were, for alternate runs, in one or the other
language. As predicted from the results of previous experiments, the male Ss
scored higher with Telugu cards while the female Ss scored higher with
English. Significant results were found when matching cards that were in the
same language, suggesting that ESP involved a form response rather than one
of meaning.
