Rao, K R (1962). The preferential effect in
ESP. Journal of Parapsychology, 26(4), (pp. 252-259) Abstract 6 selected Ss were tested to see how their
ESP performance on targets of their own choice and design would compare with
their results with ESP symbols. The total results of all Ss on their choice
symbols was above mean chance expectation; that on ESP symbols was below
chance to about the same degree; and the difference was significant at the
.002 level. The contrast between the 2 kinds of materials was most striking
in the first trials done by the Ss.
