Chauvin, Remy (1961). ESP and size of
target symbols. Journal of Parapsychology, 25, (pp. 185-189) Abstract Ss were tested for ability to identify
targets (random orders of the Digits 1 and 2) concealed in opaque envelopes.
The targets were of 2 sizes: hand -written numbers 12 mm. in height, and
microfilmed reproductions which could only be read with a strong magnifying
lens. In each test run the 2 sizes of symbols were intermixed and the S was
not told which were which. The hits scored with the 2 kinds of symbols gave
a positive deviation with the normal sized symbols and a negative deviation
with the microfilmed ones. The difference points to a psychological
interpretation rather than a purely physical effect of size of ESP
targets.
