What the younger psychologists think about ESP. Journal of
Parapsychology, 19, (pp. 228-235) Abstract Using an opinion survey questionnaire
which had previously been administered to older psychologists (Full Members
of the A.P.A., 1938; Fellows and Life Members, 1952), the writer reports
upon responses obtained from Associates admitted to membership in the A.P.A.
in 1950 and 1955. The percentage of respondents who accept ESP as a fact or
as a likely possibility was roughly 8% in 1938, 16% in 1952, and 32% in
1955. Approximately 9 in 10 consider the investigation of ESP to be a
legitimate scientific undertaking.
