Rhine, L E (1953). The relation of experience to associated event in spontaneous ESP. Journal of Parapsychology, 17, (pp. 187-209)

Abstract

From a large collection of spontaneous "psychic" experiences, the writer selected a group of 279 cases of auditory hallucinations in which the individuals had heard their names called. These cases were analyzed from the point of view of the kinds of "remote" objective events apparently connected with the experience of hearing oneself called. The events were found to represent a wide range of physical situations and the results emphasized the role of the percipient rather than the event itself in the production of the call hallucination.
