Abstract

The sequence of responses in relation to hits and misses in an ESP test was studied in an extensive series of trials with a single high-scoring subject. (1) With an expected chance hitting level of 20%, the rate of sucess was found to be 25.1% when the subject repeated the call at the exact point in the sequence at which a target selection was repeated. (2) The subject showed a tendency in most of her trials to avoid repeating a call symbol on the following trial, but she was able to overcome this aversion to doubles in order to score hits. (3) The percentage of repeated calls after hits was significantly higher than after misses, a fact which suggests some kind of reaction to having scored a hit.
