Research Interests

  • Psychological correlates of anomalous experiences subjectinvely labelled as ESP
  • Psychological correlates of PK performance under controlled conditions
  • Concomitants of belief in the paranormal, with the aim of characterising extreme believers and disbelievers, and elucidating the social psychological function of such beliefs.
  • The psychology of anomalous experience, particularly where such experiences are given a paranormal attribution;
  • The psychology of deception; particularly pseudopsychic deception; Cold reading, the process of manipulating non-verbal exchanges to gain information about clients without their knowledge, especially the manner in which this exploits conventions of conversation, and makes use of population stereotypes.
  • The Barnum Effect, the process by which people accept general statements as being an accurate description of their personality.
