David StevensonBio: Born Glasgow, Scotland, Born Jan 6, 1933. Studied Cambridge University, England, 1951-54. BA degree in natural sciences, converted to MA 1958. Clinical medical studies at Glasgow university, Scotland, 1954-58, qualified MB.,Ch.B. in 1957. Later DPH = Diploma in Public Health 1964 then MD 1965 (thesis on development of health services in Malawi). DTM&H = Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Liverpool, England, 1961. Worked in Nyasaland (now Malawi) as Diocesan Medical Officer, (Episcopalian) Diocese of Nyasaland/Malawi 1958 to 1963, then for Malawi Government 1965-66.

Lecturer in Tropical Diseases, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, 1966-72. Senior lecturer in International Community Health, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, England, 1972 to 1990. On loan to Institute of Medicine, Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu, Nepal, as visiting profesor, 1974-75. Shorter assignments in India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Turkey, Jamaica, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Cameroun, Nepal (repeated). Since 1991 Honorary Fellow, Public Health Sciences, University of Edinburgh.

David Stevenson playing smallpipe (small bagpipe) at Edinburgh home 1993Visit to Afghanistan to advise on health services 1996, visit to Brazil (as musician) to play in Carnaval, 1997, Singapore 1998 to play Scottish bagpipe along with African drummers and dancers at arts festival. Played cymbals as part of Edinburgh Samba School, among 800 drummers from 25 European bands, at Millennium celebrations in Paris, France, New Year's Eve 2000/2001. Active in Scottish National Party since 1950. Stood for election (unsuccessfully) to UK Parliament in 1964 and 1970 and to European Parliament in 1979 and 1984. (Had a stroke = brain bleed in 2001. Activities somewhat reduced but still some involvement in university teaching, music and dance, politics).

Interests include: Cooperation (and conflict) between health practitioners from different belief systems (traditional and modern medicine etc); beliefs about and evidence relating to reincarnation/rebirth and continued life after physical death; paranormal and unexplained phenomena in general.
