Theo de Graaf was born in Holland in 1941 during German occupation.
After graduating from school in 1958, he enrolled as a medical student
at Leyden University. After having completed his final examinations in
medicine in 1966, he worked for a short time as a substitute general
practitioner and subsequently started his specialization in psychiatry
under the supervision of Prof. Jan Bastiaans, who at the time headed
the Jelgersma Clinic.
