Grosso, Michael(2000). Psi, survival, and transpersonal psychology: Some points of mutual support. Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research, 94(3-4), (pp. 101-129)

Abstract

Is parapsychology on the limen of mutating into something new? In the early days, F. W. H. Myers and W. James investigated the paranormal and also what today is called "transpersonal" psychology. In the 20th century, the two domains drifted apart into the margins and became specialties in their own right. On practical and theoretical grounds, this article argues for the value of their reunion. Survival research, for example, stands to gain in psychic know-how from alliance with shamanic and mystical studies. On the other hand, the theoretical foundations of transpersonal psychology would gain on matters of ontology. A convergence would bring theory and practice together, perhaps in original and psychologically useful ways.
