Murphy, Lois B(1988). The evolution of Gardner Murphy's thinking in psychology and psychical research. Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research, 82(2), (pp. 101-114)

Abstract

From the viewpoint of a developmental psychologist, a series of questions regarding the roots and evolution of G. Murphy's (published 1927-1974) interest in parapsychology are explored: How did his interest in the subject begin? What forces within him and his environment nourished that interest? What led to the consolidation of a determination to work seriously in psychical research? What sustained that commitment to the day of his death? How did his work demonstrate his life-long need to integrate the new with the old and to deal with the place of human beings in the universe?
