Palmer, John(1988). Conceptualizing the psi controversy. Parapsychology Review, 19(1), (pp. 1-5) Abstract Describes parapsychology as studying informative interactions between organisms and their environment that appear to conflict with currently accepted scientific laws. The interactions are either anomalous (i.e., currently unexplained) or paranormal (i.e., admitting no conventional explanation). Psi refers to the phenomena under study, and omega is a generic label for any paranormal causal construct. An alternative to the conventional conceptualization of psi is presented that distinguishes between phenomena and causation, allowing greater subtlety in argumentation and research as they impact on conventional science.
