Timm, Ulrich(1987). When will we begin to reduce alpha- and beta-errors in statistical psi experiments? European Journal of Parapsychology, 7(1), (pp. 83-93) Abstract Discusses statistical selection errors that lead to an increase in alpha -errors in parapsychological research. It is noted that alpha-errors are so prevalent that they can be found in most statistical investigations; after correcting these errors, the claimed statistical significance frequently disappears, especially in complex multivariate studies. Evaluation methods are presented that can detect small psi effects, while avoiding selection error, by increasing statistical efficiency.
