Palmer, John & Kramer, Wim(1987). Release of effort in RNG PK: An attempted replication and extension. Journal of Parapsychology, 51(2), (pp. 125-136) Abstract Attempted to replicate an experiment by the present authors (see record 1985-13415-001) supporting the hypothesis that a psychokinesis (PK) effect occurs when there is a release of effort from the prior PK attempt. 48 volunteers each completed 1 session trying to influence the output of a random number generator (RNG). The session had 3 sets of 2,500 trials and no immediate feedback. Set 1 began after a progressive relaxation tape was played. Set 2 tested for release of effort. Set 3 was accompanied by a tape of loud drum beats. The prediction that the unsigned critical ratios of Set 2 would be significantly greater than chance was not confirmed.
