Hearne, Keith M(1985). The importance of spontaneous cases. Parapsychology Review, 16(5), (pp. 13-15) Abstract Discusses the danger of research in parapsychology laboratories becoming distanced from phenomena in the real world. The present author's work is used to illustrate the point. It is suggested that theory that has regard to psi in actual operation must be taken into account in any reductive laboratory experimentation. It is concluded that if psi effects are not strong enough and are too unreliable in the laboratory (isolated from the motivational circumstances of the real world), a more realistic method of advance is to examine spontaneous source material.
