Schouten, Sybo A(1983). A different approach for analyzing spontaneous cases: With particular reference to the study of Louisa E. Rhine's case collection. Journal of Parapsychology, 47(4), (pp. 323-340) Abstract Describes the author's study of spontaneous cases of psi and how it differed in methodology from the previous work conducted by E. Gurney et al (1970) and by L. E. Rhine (1953-1970). The previous studies were based on the premise that telepathy and clairvoyance are experimentally proven phenomena, while the present author's study was based on a more pragmatic approach that viewed the issue of whether ESP was an empirically proven phenomenon as irrelevant and possibly in conflict with normal scientific procedure. Specific differences between this model and that of Rhine are discussed. (31 ref)
