Calvesi, Alessandro(1983). The analytic relationship and its therapeutic factors from a parapsychological viewpoint. Psychoanalytic Review, 70(3), (pp. 387-402) Abstract Discusses the use of parapsychology, particularly ESP, in the conduct of psychoanalysis. Every analysis is born or motivated out of suffering, as all psychic structuring is born out of anguish and the relative defenses. It is suggested that the "parts" formed out of similarly structured suffering--in the patient and in the analyst--offer great potential for communication. In these areas of congruence between analyst and patient, a relationship is established that encourages, on both sides, mutative possibilities in a reworking of the experiences themselves. A case study of a nephritic male patient, in analysis with the present author, illustrates an ESP experience between the two that allowed fruitful analysis--a primitive fusional pathogenic state of the S with his mother was substituted for a fusional state with the analyst, leading to eventual recovery.
