Journal of Parapsychology, 47(2), (pp. 145-161) Abstract Reviews the book-length survey entitled the Society for Psychical Research, 1882-2982: A History, by R. Haynes (1982), which covers the antecedents and founding of the Society and the Society's explanations of phantasms, mental mediumship, and physical phenomena. Haynes is criticized for her poor documentation, but it is suggested that the book may be useful in providing a first step toward the study of original Society publications. (41/4 p ref)
