Schmeidler, Gertrude R(1983). Interpreting reports of out-of-body experiences. Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, 52(794), (pp. 102 -104) Abstract Describes 2 studies that indicate that direct suggestion can persuade many individuals to report having had an out-of-body experience (OBE). S. B. Brent (1979) attempted to lead 45 students into an OBE. Before the induction, only 2 reported having had a prior OBE, but 44 reported an OBE after the induction. The present author attempted this experiment with 45 Ss, but she also prepared 2 targets that could be viewed only from a certain height above the ground. 67% reported having had an OBE after the induction, but only 1 S could describe the targets.
