McClenon, James(1982). A survey of elite scientists: Their attitudes toward ESP and parapsychology. Journal of Parapsychology, 46(2), (pp. 127-152) Abstract 339 council members and selected section committee members of the American Association for the Advancement of Science completed a questionnaire regarding their attitudes toward ESP, parapsychology, and anomalous experience. Only 29% of the Ss considered ESP to be an established fact or likely possibility, the highest level of skepticism regarding ESP of any major group surveyed within the last 20 yrs. Personal experience was found to be a far more important factor related to belief in ESP than familiarity with psi research. It is argued that the scientific elite represented by this sample denies the legitimacy of psi research to defend the world view on which their roles depend. (18 ref)
