Taboas, Alfonso M(1982). On demons, super-ESP and Ockham's razor: Their implications for survival research. Parapsychology Review, 13(5), (pp. 19-21) Abstract Argues that a survival explanation (whereby an apparition possessing the characteristics of a formerly live person is assumed to be the actual "remainder" of that person) surpasses super-ESP theories and satanic theories in believability and simplicity when accounting for spiritual phenomena. Recourse to super-ESP or demons to explain spiritual phenomena is not the best scientific choice because such choices involve existential statements that are irrefutable, retrospective, and unrestricted. In contrast, survival statements have the potential of being falsifiable and empirical. (41 ref)
