Abstract

Suggests that astrologers and psychics play a role similar to that played by psychotherapists and that they serve clients who do not wish to characterize themselves as having psychological problems. This is documented by the writings of astrologers and by transcripts of visits to astrologers and psychics by a client. Astrology is useful because it provides concepts and terminology that describe people's life states and problems. It also provides a good medium for incorporating modern psychological therapies. Both astrologers and psychics provided examples of advising, increasing the client's self-esteem, preparing the client to face trauma, and empathic dialog. (9 ref)
