Stanford, Rex G(1981). Cognitive constraints and ESP performance: On testing some implications of a model. Parapsychology Review, 12(6), (pp. 1-5) Abstract Examines the implications of the conformance model of psi for the conditions under which ESP can occur. The conformance model views psi as organizing disorganized or random processes such that their outcomes are in accord with the dispositions of someone who has a concern about these outcomes. Research on ESP performance has sought to manipulate the environmental setting so that cognitive constraints are more or less likely to develop and be maintained. The experimental role of sequential, contextual, and rational constraints are considered. It is concluded that more incisive means of assessing the cognitive consequences of experimental manipulations must be developed to improve models of psi -conducive states. (6 ref)
